Hake's Offers Many Marvel Keys Certified by CGC

Marvel firsts are among hundreds of comic books certified by CGC being offered in a Hake's Auction sale in November.

Hake's Premier Auction #242 includes many famous superhero debuts and other historic issues authenticated and graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®). There is a wide variety of books from the Golden Age through to the Modern era, including variants and many singed books. Bidding is underway and closes on November 19-20, 2024.

Among the biggest highlights of this auction is an Amazing Spider-Man #1 graded CGC 7.5. Spider-Man was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15 by Marvel Comics in 1962. The new superhero immediately found success with readers, so Marvel rushed out his own series, beginning with Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 1963. The comic focuses on Spider-Man’s adventures with stories that recount how Peter Parker received his powers and teamed with the Fantastic Four against the Chameleon. There are 5,096 examples of this comic in the CGC Comics Census as of the time of this article.

Also available is a Journey Into Mystery #83 graded CGC 6.5. Published in August 1962, this comic marks the legendary debut of Thor by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. In this issue, readers are introduced to Dr. Donald Blake, a human who discovers a mystical walking stick that transforms into Thor’s powerful hammer, Mjolnir, when struck against the ground. There are 2,579 examples of this comic in the CGC Comics Census as of the time of this article.
