Choose CGC Pressing to Maximize Eye Appeal
Posted on 18/04/2023
Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is changing some of its services and fees for comic books, magazines and concert posters on May 2, 2023. As part of these updates, CGC is moving its pressing, restoration and restoration removal services under the CGC Pressing brand. The same world-leading services are still being offered, but the Classic Collectible Services® (CCS®) brand will no longer be used.
This change will further streamline the CGC submission process and workflow, building on improvements that have already resulted in significantly faster turnaround times for comic book, magazine and concert poster submissions. Enhancing the appearance of your collectibles is as simple as selecting pressing when choosing your CGC grading services on our user-friendly online submission form.
What is pressing?
Pressing is a process that can enhance the appearance of a comic book by removing non-color breaking defects, such as:
- Spine rolls
Pressing has been around since the beginning of comic book collecting, when crude and simple methods of pressing were employed, with little thought given to long-term effects. By the 1980s pressing became more sophisticated, serving as part of the evolving restoration process. In the 1990s, pressing became associated with water and solvent cleaning (hence the phrase “cleaning and pressing”) and was utilized separately from traditional restoration. If done correctly, multiple pressings do not hurt a comic.
CGC is the industry leader in comic book pressing. Our multi-step process has been modified and honed through thousands of hours of research and development. We’ve pressed hundreds of thousands of comics, many of them regarded as the most valuable in the hobby. Our experienced pressing team has been entrusted with Pedigree collections, key issues, modern comics, CGC Signature Series submissions, atypical comics and abnormal defects, all with expert results.
Don’t forget to select CGC Pressing with your next submission. The service starts at just $15 per collectible. For more information about how to submit, go here.
