CGC Grades Magazines from the Armstrong Family Collection™

CGC is proud to have graded magazines from the Armstrong Family Collection™, which was assembled by astronaut Neil Armstrong and his immediate family members. The provenance of these unique collectibles was certified by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty™ (CAG™).

Now, the first several dozen magazines are being offered to the public as part of a Heritage Auctions sale on Nov. 1-2. The sale features some amazing items from the Armstrong Family Collection™, including flags and medals flown on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, as well as letters, photographs and other fascinating items from Armstrong's lifetime.

Perhaps the most interesting magazine in the sale is a copy of Newsweek featuring Armstrong on its cover, in his space suit and holding his helmet, with a lunar background. Graded CGC 6.5, it is dated July 21, 1969, a day after Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Interestingly, a label with Armstrong's Houston-area address is still attached to the bottom of the cover.

Another interesting CGC-graded item in the auction is a May 15, 1972 Sports Illustrated, graded CGC 3.5. It features Wilt Chamberlain on the cover with the words "Los Angeles champions at last!" The Lakers has just won their first NBA title since moving to Los Angeles.

Other magazines in the auction reflect Armstrong's interests: Aviation Week & Space Technology, Aerospace America, the AOPA Pilot, The Family Handyman, National Geographic and Popular Mechanics. All are encapsulated in holders that were created through years of research by CGC.
